About Kathy Gere, LICSW, CMHS

Welcome to Harbor Youth & Family. I started Harbor Youth & Family because I saw a need for specialized services to youth and their families as well as individuals.

My goal is to provide the best possible treatment to all of my clients. To achieve my goal I keep informed of changes and improved treatment methods by attending training on a regular basis. Other ways that I keep on top of current trends is by being a member of several professional groups and reading about innovative, evidenced based, best practice approaches. To further support my ability to be effective I attend monthly peer consultation groups to review complex situations. This enables me to step back and obtain input from my peers to ensure that I do not miss any opportunities to be as effective as I can in providing services.

I draw from a variety of resources from my formal training as well as experiences working with a variety of individuals as young as five years of age through adults. Methods that I use are research based and have proven to be effective. Much of my training for treating trauma came from my work with the armed services. I learned a great deal working with the men and women who serve our country and am greatly appreciative of the lessons that I learned from them. In the civilian sector I have worked with first responders, individuals that have experienced both complex (childhood trauma) to those experiencing accidents, natural disasters, and other forms of grief and loss. My other areas of expertise includes working with couples and family groups to strengthen bonds.

Clients working with me can expect to have the best and most current treatment available. In the event that an individual's needs are beyond what I feel confident in being able to competently treat I will provide an appropriate referral to a provider that will be more suitable for the person's needs.

Making a decision about who to work with is an important one therefore, I provide clients with sufficient information to make an informed decision. After all, your time and money is valuable and we cannot waste any of it. Working with me will be a collaborative process. I know change can be difficult therefore I approach my clients with patience and understanding. My role is as a facilitator of change and supporter of the process.

The change process is different for everyone. Individuals that put in greater effort will see greater returns. With that said, everyone starts at a different place. Therefore, each person will follow their own course at their own pace.
